Icy cold winds.

Yesterday we thought we just might go for a walk along the beach at South Shian, the sun was shining after all. We lasted only minutes as the icy north wind seemed to blow right through us, my ears ached for about an hour. Is this 'age' I ask myself.
The overnight snow came as a surprise but the view of the mountains in the distance is breath taking, we can even see the northern tip of Mull from here but our predominant view is of Morvern and Ardmucknish Bay.
We do try to keep Dougal out of the water in this cold weather but sometimes he is not very co-operative.
Between having a bad cold and the snow Marshall has managed to avoid school for most of the week!

Snow

4/02/2009, 4/02/2009
I thought we would escape it but no today the snow is falling albeit very lightly. Marshall was bemoaning the fact that he has to go back to school today. Hopefully the new senior management team at his school will have used these last two days wisely in trying to turn the school around.
I have nearly finished the book about David Kelly's death, at the end of one chapter there is a wonderful statement with regard to politicians. It says "Morality is indeed a branch of geography" and hasn't history proved it. Unless there is something in it for us we are quite happy to watch people murdered either by the gun or by starvation. We make token gestures of throwing money at problems instead of getting to the root of them. We don't even ask why anymore.
Every time I look up from the computer the scene outside becomes whiter and whiter, maybe a good day for my new camera!

Finished at last.

31/01/2009, 31/01/2009
I note that I have only blogged once in the last week, this is not down to lazyness but rather too busy on my project, well one of them! I started off with the idea of producing a small booklet containing some of my mother's own recipes, this small booklet is now 40+ pages of memories, photographs and other memorabelia all of which I hope will fascinate the family. There is a slight technical hitch regarding it being posted as a pdf. file, one of the photo's refuses to show itself! just as well maybe as I did not want it to go on-line before the family had recieved their printed copies.
I did not bargain for the all to many sleepless nights it caused, I just could not switch off my mind as memory after memory came flooding back but you have to stop somewhere so I hope the balance is right.
Today we have been out visiting friends one of whom has been ill with the dreaded bug, hope we didn't tire her out!

The axe has fallen.

29/01/2009, 29/01/2009
I am glad to report the axe has fallen on the two top heads of The Richard Rose Academy in Carlisle as the ofsted report came out. Marshall is however sad as Mike Yearsley was his 'pal'!! Maybe that was the problem the guy was teaching instead of Directing! and the school ran away from him. A good teacher he may have been but that does not mean to say he had good senior management skills.
So, we may be heading for another election, can we stand it again.....or even afford it?
We have been up here nearly 4 weeks now, illness has prevented us traveling far but that is no bad thing. I have nearly finished the project I am doing about my mother, this has been an idea that has floated around in my head for years....now almost complete.

The Panto!

26/01/2009, 26/01/2009
Our night out to see Cinderella at the Corran Halls on Saturday was a great success and a great laugh, the best laugh of the w/end was of course watching Dancing on Ice seeing Todd disappear off the set!
During Saturday nights performance a friend leaned over towards me and asked if I had seen the news, what news I asked, Marshall's school in Carlisle and proceeded to inform me of the events.
I was shocked at the stance taken by the kids but I should not have been surprised having known about the state of the school for some months and seen Marshall's grades drop quite alarmingly.
I have to question the directors confrontational attitude towards pupils and parents, he and he alone has seriously failed those kids and his staff. Perhaps when the HMI report is published he will be removed.
They have drastically failed to promote an environment for learning, what on earth did they expect cramming two very different schools together?
Alarm bells have been rang out loud and clear I hope the kids have achieved something.
