Just like the moon has different phases I find I have to.....I am sure we are all the same. I am now in my green phase!!!
Last night's Panorama programme about Elderly Care in private homes found me searching the net for articles about Human Rights for those most at risk in our society. There are a lot of good practice guidelines.....even white papers...but no actual laws apart from those which cover us all under Criminal Law regarding Physical violence.
In short I can be fined even jailed for neglecting my dog but if I am in a Private Care Home nobody is accountable under criminal law for how I am treated.
The law stops us assisting someone to die irrespective of how much pain they are suffering or how low their quality of life may be but what about the people who inflict such pain by neglect......something is not quite right here.
The Care Commission as a body do have some powers...they can close a home....but as we saw last night how many people must suffer before they act and who will fight for those who have no voice?
The Care Commission can also have professional people struck of but they cannot bring charges.
When something goes wrong in a home those within close ranks ....the truth is hard to find but does that mean we should not bother looking for it?
A major share of the votes in this years election will come from senior citizens, perhaps this is a question we should put to those who would knock on our doors seeking our vote......"What will you do to protect the elderly in Private Care Homes"?.....and don't be fobbed of with words such as 'Good Practice' and 'Care Commission' the fact is the Human Rights bill does NOT cover those people, and those people will be us in not to many years hence!

Another manic Monday is past and the weeks fly in. The snow never came to much up here although a few were caught out on the mountain tops over the w/end. When we driving up to Ledaig on Saturday the mountains looked very foreboding with blizzard conditions not to high up. Even at that early hour there were those who were gearing up to have a go.....I suppose it's the challenge but there is also something called common sense!....or am I am wimp!!!

The world falls apart before our very eyes and all the papers can go on about is what David Cameron did at the age of 15!!.....who of us WAS perfect at that age, and come to think of it WHO of us is perfect NOW!!!!
Being into politics at the moment I was listening to the politics show at lunch time today.....again the subject was the same, fortunately all MP's and MSP's asked more or less said....who cares. Ross Finney however went on to say that what troubled him was that here was a leader who seemed unable to give a straight answer to a straight question!!!.......do you know any politician who can?
Am I mad to set of on a course that will lead me to engaging with such people on a regular basis?.....are my standards to high>.....will it drive me round the bend? Working for a Local Authority was bad enough......maybe I will have to adopt the attitude of.....nothing surprises me anymore!!

Today we did brave the icy cold weather, it was up and away quite early......well quite early for us! heading north to Ledaig. It tried hard to snow but in the end it came to very little. A stop of at the Loch Fyne Oysters to purchase a gift for our hosts......Smokies and Aiket cheese....the latter being a new one to us and our hosts. It was lovely....unfortunately we left to late to purchase the same for ourselves on the way back......good excuse for another trip!
It sure was cold as Dougal took a fancy to making us stop twice either way!! but the trip was well worth it to be in the company of such lovely folk and to see the West Coast again!
I can't believe we haven't travelled that road since last October
......what do we do with our time?
Remember Deano the latest addition to the McDowall family in Carlisle?...this was him just before Christmas
He is just a big softie really who like Dougal is quite a poser!![ 10 comments ] ( 235 views ) |

Unlike this little guy, I had absolutely no inclination to brave the cold weather today!
No we don't have snow....photo is an old one!! it's actually to cold to snow here, maybe if it did snow it would be a little warmer. Looking at the forecast it is to be even colder tomorrow and we are going up to Ledaig.....it would be a day for 'long-johns' ......if I had any!!
I have been reading Julie Goodyear's biography today and she mentioned liberty bodice's with rubber buttons......I remember them. I think I have an aversion to any underwear that reminds me of my childhood clothing. I used to have thick vests in the winter plus the liberty bodice! {and where did that name come from anyway?} and a thin vest in the summer!!...all St Micheal's mind you!!! I was told it was the proper way for little girls to dress.....I wonder what that was all about....I can guess!!!! Even to this day I refuse to wear a vest!....I wonder if I will succumb to that one as I get older.....for the moment I just throw on another jumper.
