The Blame Game

7/12/2006, 7/12/2006
I bet Mr Bush had a sore head yesterday.....not a word from his side kick yet though! So now it's official.....Iraq is a disaster......Apocalyptic even.....and who do we blame....why the Iraqis of course. Nothing to do with the fact that we....yes we flattened the country in the first place with our very own WMD's THEN charged in with no thought or even care about their culture....history or beliefs and imposed a western style democracy upon them.
NOW as an excuse to get out of the mess, we will set targets for their government to meet and Punish them if they fail to meet them!.......who the hell do we think we are? Somehow we must try and put this right...how I do not know....but perhaps it would help if the respective governments would at the very least accept some of the responsibility. Humility is a good foundation to build upon.
On the subject of the so called pre-budget speech it is worth noting that although our dear Chancellor started raking in the taxes at mid-night last night....he will not actually be handing anything out until next April......how clever is that!!......and where are all these green taxes going anyway....he never actually tells us where those monies are being spent......maybe it fills the black hole!!!

On Taxes and Legislation

6/12/2006, 6/12/2006
I see by news reports this morning that Gordon Brown is expected to raise taxes again on 4x4's. It could be said that I am biased having one, but over the past few weeks with all the floods this was the only vehicle safe to go out in around this part of the world.
The government also past another law lately that has forced some families into HAVING to buy much bigger vehicles!.....it is the law about child booster seats.....if you have more than 2 young children there is no way you can use a small Eco friendly car!!.....nor can you now offer to double up on the school run. The point I am trying to make is very often some laws that are past are done so with very little thought and have a knock on effect on other laws.....but no-one seems to sus this out!!!
I have just read the Pre-budget report......I am confused!!!..nothing new you may say....how can you put the fuel Tax up at midnight tonight when this is a PRE- budget report. The Budget itself not being until Next year!!! this is a new one even for this government.
Tonight is our House Group night so it's back to 'Velvet Elvis'!!The thoughts tonight centre around the Bible being alive today and what makes it so.....Part of the reasoning being... the stories within it are also our stories today.....It Happens!!! The Bible is both 'wild' and 'passionate', the story of how real people experienced the living God.....how they argued with Him.....got angry with Him yet loved Him because he gave them His all......just like us today!!....so in that respect nothing changes!

Man on the Moon!

5/12/2006, 5/12/2006
So Mr Bush is going to build a permanent base on the Moon.......will this be his retiral home I wonder.....I can but dream!!!! Not content with the havoc he reeks on this earth he now wants to rule the world from above.....I thought that was God's job!!!

I watched an interesting programme on the TV last night, it was about the Lost Gospels and who decided what would become Canon Scripture.....and more to the point the motives behind those decisions......the same could be said today about how we use Scripture. Some people use it to bash others over the head.....they pick out texts written thousands of years ago for a particular people in a particular culture and think it is meant to apply in exactly the same way today......would they pick up an old car manual and apply it to their brand new car of today?
I am not saying the Bible isn't irrelevant to today's needs.....it is very relevant....it's the way we interpret it that needs to change to meet the challenges of today.
As for the thoughts about Mary Magdalene...well I am no scholar.....but what if?!!! would it really rock your faith......if so what is your Faith based on in the first place.....just what is your perception of Jesus?

The Wild Wild West!

4/12/2006, 4/12/2006
The term Wild West used to refer to bygone days in America, after the past few days we can claim it for ourselves!
This is Ayrshire today only a few miles down the coast from us!
The weather caused havoc with our Internet service with power in Rosneath being off for nearly 24hrs....but we were okay here.....strange.
Today has been a day for writing some of the mound of cards and wrapping presents.....are we ahead of ourselves I ask myself.....that makes a change!!
One person in the house likes Christmas....Dougal sits at the foot of his Advent Santa every morning waiting for his biscuit!!.....he's not daft!

The truth is out!

3/12/2006, 3/12/2006
Well now we have it......it's official it is costing the taxpayer £1.7million pound a month to police the fiasco at Faslane. I pass the base on average 3 times a week, apart from w/ends there are as few as 3 or 4 protesters with up to 80 police officers on any given day!! This is to go on for 365 days apparently. Should we in Argyll be picking up the bill or should it be Westminster, after all it is their policy that dictates the use of this base......and on the subject of security what a lot of rubbish is coming out of the mouth of John Reid at the moment.....he says 'He fears for Scotland's security' should we become independent.....just whose policies have caused the problem in the first place? And as for families across borders having to choose which passport they wish to hold.....does he think we are stupid.....are they not ALL European these days.....or has he got a special one?!!
Changing the subject it being Sunday! church was as challenging as ever this morning. Being the 1st Sunday in Advent the topic was Expectations! the question "What is your expectation of God this Christmas?'
Do we spend the next 4 weeks looking back 2000 yrs with a kind of rosey glow or do we expect the God who surprised everyone then to actually surprise us Now....Today...Dare we Ask Him to?
